Type of Hand Luggage: Each person is allowed a maximum of 1 piece of hand luggage in the form of a backpack, suitcase, or bag, plus 1 small handbag or laptop bag.

Dimensions of Hand Luggage: 55 x 35 x 23 cm for the main hand luggage piece, including wheels and handles, and 40 x 30 x 10 cm for the handbag or laptop bag.

Weight of Hand Luggage: 8 kg for the main hand luggage piece and 2 kg for the handbag or laptop bag – totaling 10 kg.

Usually Not Allowed: Sharp or pointed objects such as pocket knives, corkscrews, nail files, and nail scissors. Also generally prohibited are razors without plastic, storm or gasoline lighters, gas and gas containers, spray paint cans, stun guns, and pepper spray.

Usually Allowed: Nail scissors, disposable razors, pocket knives with a maximum length of 6 cm, tweezers with rounded edges, a single, standard disposable lighter or matches in your pocket.

Liquids in a Bag: FlüssigkeitenLiquids must be a maximum of 100 ml each and all must be packed in a 1-liter bag (up to 10 travel-sized liquids). When traveling with four people with hand luggage, we usually have 3-4 liquid bags handy in our luggage. Nowadays, there are also solid shower and hair care products, allowing you to avoid liquids.

Clothing Tips for Hand Luggage and Comfortable Flying:

Pack only clothes you like to wear, and that are multifunctional and single-colored if possible. Roll your clothes to save space and wear as much as you can on your body, especially heavy items like sports shoes, a hoodie, a cap/thin beanie, and possibly a scarf, as it often gets cold due to the air conditioning while traveling.
For flying, we recommend underwear, functional pants (thin, durable, with detachable legs – so shorts), T-shirt, thin hoodie, socks, sports shoes, cap/thin beanie, and possibly a scarf.
Pack enough to last about a week to 10 days. For trips longer than 10 days, we bring hand wash detergent and a clothesline to do some washing in between.

Packing lists are always very individual, depending on personal preferences and the travelers’ needs. Those traveling with babies or toddlers will, of course, need different items. Remember that many items are available locally, especially hygiene products, standard medications, diapers, and baby food.
