Discover Burgos – a historic city on the Camino de Santiago with an impressive cathedral, a romantic old town, and culinary highlights. Perfect for families, culture enthusiasts, and lovers of Spain!
We had the privilege of experiencing the Spanish city of Burgos for ten days – a place that was not only the host of the Dance World Cup 2025, but also a true treasure trove of culture, history, and Spanish joie de vivre. Surrounded by Gothic architecture, medieval alleys, and fragrant tapas bars, we fell in love – here are our highlights!
First Orientation: The City Tour by the Tourist Train
A perfect introduction to Burgos: The tourist train (“Tren Turístico Burgos“) departs behind the cathedral at Plaza Conde de Nuño Rasura. For €22 (2 adults, 2 children), you get a 45-minute tour of the city – including an audio guide in German and English.
Highlight: The train takes you to the highest viewpoint over Burgos – a spectacular panoramic view of the city and its historic center. A must-do for families!
The Cathedral of Burgos: A Masterpiece in Stone
Few buildings have impressed us as much as the Cathedral of Burgos – a UNESCO World Heritage site and a prime example of Gothic architecture. The intricate details, the lavish decorations, the majestic towers: Every corner of this church is a work of art in itself.
With the audio guide on your smartphone, the visit becomes even more exciting. Entrance for the whole family: €24 (2 adults + 2 children) – worth every cent!
In the Footsteps of Pilgrims: The Camino de Santiago in Burgos
Burgos is an important stop on the Camino de Santiago. The shell symbols on the streets invite you to walk part of the pilgrimage route – or simply pause and observe the passing pilgrims while enjoying a coffee. Spiritual, lively, and inspiring.
Tapas Love: Culinary Delights for Little Money
Whether Chorizo al vino, Gambas al ajillo, or Tortilla Española – the tapas restaurants in Burgos treated us to authentic Spanish specialties. Fresh, diverse, and incredibly affordable: Here, you can dine at a high level for a small price.
Tip: The Calle de San Lorenzo and the surrounding area offer many charming eateries – just try them all!
Paseo del Espolón: Fairytale Evening Walks
The Paseo del Espolón along the Río Arlanzón enchants with its artfully trimmed plane trees, playful sculptures, and trickling fountains.
Pro tip: At sunset, this place feels like something out of a fairytale book. Definitely bring your camera – and time for daydreaming.
Dance, Culture, and Spanish Joy of Life
Aside from sightseeing, the Dance World Cup 2025 was, of course, our personal highlight – but Burgos also proved itself as a cultural and family-friendly destination. Certainly not our last visit!
Conclusion: Burgos combines everything that makes a successful city trip: impressive history, delicious food, a relaxed atmosphere – and for dance lovers this year, that special extra.
