1. Puerta del Sol – Heart of Madrid

Puerta del Sol is one of Spain’s most famous squares – a perfect starting point for your city adventure. Located in a car-free pedestrian zone, it’s ideal for strolling around, watching street performers, and recharging your energy before heading to the next stop.

What kids (and adults) shouldn’t miss here:

• The clock above the regional government building is famous: every New Year’s Eve, millions of Spaniards eat 12 grapes here – one for each chime – to bring good luck for the year ahead!
• Kilómetro Cero: A special stone slab marks the official starting point of Spain’s road network. It’s the perfect spot for a fun family photo – with everyone’s feet on the “starting line”.
• El Oso y el Madroño: The statue of the bear nibbling on the strawberry tree is the symbol of Madrid – a must-see for young animal lovers and photo collectors alike.

From here, you can walk straight into some of Madrid’s most popular shopping streets – perfect for a quick shopping break (or to taste some turrón, a type of white nougat, for example at Turronnes Casa…).

2. Sightseeing with a Twist: Discover Madrid by Tuk-Tuk

3. Lunch Break at Mercado San Antón

Mercado San Antón, located in the trendy Chueca district, is a modern market hall with a fantastic rooftop restaurant. You’ll find everything here: Spanish tapas, fresh pasta, fruit, ice cream – and best of all, none of the tourist crowds you’d expect at Mercado de San Miguel.

Alternative: Mercado de Vallehermoso is also a charming and much less crowded option – perfect if you want to enjoy tasty bites among the locals.

4. Sweet Break: Churros at San Ginés

An absolute must for anyone with a sweet tooth: Churros con Chocolate at the legendary Chocolatería San Ginés. Since 1894, crispy fried dough has been dipped into thick, rich chocolate here – a treat that makes kids’ eyes light up! Come early or be ready to wait a little – it’s totally worth it.

5. Retiro Park – A Peaceful Oasis in the Heart of the City

After the hustle and bustle of the city, Parque del Buen Retiro is the perfect place to unwind. This vast urban park has everything kids love:
