Lipno nad Vltavou, also known as “Lippen,” is a picturesque destination on the shores of the Lipno Reservoir in the southwest of the Czech Republic, within the Bohemian Forest National Park and near the Austrian border. With a length of about 30 km and a maximum width of approximately 6 km, the Lipno Reservoir is the largest lake in the Czech Republic. Its pristine, tranquil surroundings and wide range of leisure activities—including the largest marina in Central Europe—make the lake and the Lipno nad Vltavou region a popular holiday destination.
Activities on the Water:
Boating Adventures: Explore Lake Lipno by boat! Marina Lipno offers a variety of boating options. Lipno Line provides round trips, charter cruises, and scheduled cruises, including a stop in Lipno nad Vltavou. The INTERSPORT Rent Captain’s Office allows you to rent motorboats and sailboats without a license. Electric and motorboats are available from April to October. Nearby, the INTERSPORT Rent Beach offers additional boat rentals and a beach arena for activities like beach volleyball.
Pláž Lipno Beach: Pláž Lipno in Lipno nad Vltavou is a family-friendly beach with sandy and rocky sections. Facilities include restrooms, changing rooms, and boat rentals. A sunbathing lawn with shady trees provides comfort. From June to August, you can rent sea kayaks, pedal boats, and paddleboards.
Wakeboarding and Waterskiing: These are not allowed directly on the reservoir. However, the nearby RYBAR facility offers both sports from July to August between 10 AM and 8 PM. The complex also includes a fun zone with pedal boats, aqua paddling, stand-up paddling, and games such as kubb, pétanque, croquet, tennis, table tennis, and badminton. Free activities are also available, as well as areas for acoustic experiences, sensory exploration, and a playground for children.
Activities on Land:
Hiking Trails: Lipno nad Vltavou offers excellent hiking opportunities. Routes range from easy walks to challenging hikes. Themed and family-friendly routes are also available, as well as multi-day treks for experienced hikers.
Cycling and Inline Skating Paths: A vast network of cycling and skating trails surrounds the lake. The Lipno Magistrale is a popular route along the lake’s left bank, stretching 53.8 km with a 361 m elevation change, running from Vyšší Brod through Frymburk to Nová Pec.
Adventure Golf: Fun Spot Lipno features an 18-hole adventure golf course integrated into the botanical garden’s terrain. Surrounded by flora and fauna, with a waterfall and small ponds, the course is accessible and fun for all ages.
Disc Golf: At the top of Kramolín Hill, disc golf offers a frisbee challenge with 9 baskets over 1500 meters. The course is in a quiet area near the Lipno Express chairlift base station.
Forest Kingdom: Below the Treetop Walkway, the “Forest Kingdom” is a nature-themed playground open from March to October (June to September from 9:30 AM to 9 PM). It offers activities for all ages, including a labyrinth, trampolines, climbing areas, carousels, sandboxes, role-play houses, petting animals, wooden instruments, sensory paths, puzzle and educational stations. All elements are forest-inspired and harmoniously blend into the landscape.
For the Adventurous:
Treetop Walkway: This 675-meter-long walkway rises up to 40 meters and offers stunning views of the reservoir, Bohemian Forest, Gratzen Mountains, and Austrian Alps. Open year-round and stroller-accessible, it features 11 adrenaline stations and educational stops. At the top, visitors can try one of the longest slides in the Czech Republic (52 meters, for ages 6+). Access via Lipno Express cable car (summer only) or path shuttle.
Summer Toboggan Run: Open year-round from 10 AM to 6 PM, the toboggan track is exciting for all ages. In addition to the sporty toboggan run, there’s also an Alpine coaster suitable for families with children.
High Rope Park: This adventure park near the central parking area and cable car station offers rope courses for all ages. It’s open from May to October, with July and August hours from 10 AM to 6 PM.
Downhill, Bike & Pumptrack: From April to October, the Lipno Bikepark at the base station of the Lipno Express offers rentals for downhill, freeride, and kids’ bikes. After taking the chairlift up, guests can descend the 1800 m blue or 1200 m red trails featuring berms, wallrides, kickers, and more. Riding technique training is available, and kids aged 8+ are welcome. A warm-up pumptrack is located near the Forest Kingdom entrance, suitable for bikes, scooters, skates, and boards.
Relaxation and More:
Aquaworld Lipno: Dive into relaxation at Aquaworld Lipno. Enjoy the pool, water slides, or unwind in the whirlpool with lake views.
Indoor Fun: On rainy days, Hopsárium and Papilonia offer family-friendly indoor entertainment. Kids can play in South Bohemia’s largest indoor playground or marvel at exotic butterflies up close.
